How To Restyle Your Home This Autumn

564views

Autumn is a wonderful season. The days are still long, the temperatures mild, and the trees transform into beautiful bodies of red, gold, and brown. It is also the time of the year that triggers you to restyle your home in preparation for the colder winter months.

Spice Things Up

Don’t only add warmer notes to your home by serving spicy foods from the kitchen, include them in your home furnishings too. A quick, inexpensive way to do this is by changing the covers on your scatter cushions. Great autumn colours that immediately offer a feeling of warmth include deep reds, darker yellow hues such as mustard and turmeric, and oranges.

Texture and Light

As the evening temperatures begin to cool, you may be inclined to want to spend time cosying up to your favourite person, enjoying a show on the television with a cup of hot cocoa in hand. Instead of a conventional blanket to keep you snug, why not opt for a textured throw in an autumn colour? Adding woven fabrics into your decor is another economical way to upgrade a room without spending too much money. Mood lighting also creates a feeling of warmth and closeness. Avoid bright, direct overhead lighting; instead, burn a few scented candles, or use multiple light sources to emit light that is not only comforting but warm too.

Add Space

Building materials are expensive in the UK, so any new home addition is bound to be costly. A great way to add space to your home is by setting up a log cabin on your property. Knock out a wall and add the structure directly onto the main house, or place it as a free-standing building in your garden. Either way, it will add space to your property and increase its value at the same time. Win-win!

Bathroom Bliss

Often, the bathroom is a neglected space. It too deserves to be spruced up as the seasons change. Give it an instant pick-me-up by investing in some new bath mats and towels. Upgrade it even further to a glorious relaxation space by adding some upmarket houseplants, such as orchids that thrive in humid conditions. If you’re more of a no-fuss plant person, then any plant from the sansevieria genus will be an excellent choice for your bathroom.

Cheer Up the Chimney

If your home is equipped with a fireplace, it is wise to have the chimney checked and cleaned. If you don’t, you place yourself, your family, and your home at risk as creosote can build up in the flue. Constant exposure to this substance can negatively impact respiratory health. It is also extremely flammable, which could result in a house fire. It’s always best to err on the side of caution and have the chimney checked at least twice a year. To give your fireplace an autumnal feel, you could have a wreath of autumn branches and berries on it, or place photos on the mantelpiece in autumn coloured frames.

We hope that the few ideas above inspire you to warm up your home this autumn.
